A little farther up the road in the mountains of North Carolina, you’ll find more advanced skiing for those who want to up their skiing game. Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley, N.C. boasts a peak elevation of 5,400 feet, with runs up to 3,500 feet and a vertical drop of 750 feet. With eighteen trails to choose from, there is something for skiers of every level. Sugar Mountain Resort, while slightly lower at 5,300 feet peak elevation, has an even more diverse trail range, offering 20 beginner to double black diamond runs. So, whether you’re a transplant from Aspen or a wannabe Von Trap, Huntsville may not be as far away from making your skiing dream a reality as you’d think.

The club organizes weekly ski trips in January and February at discounted rates to many of the country’s premier ski resorts.
